The Department of Orthopaedics looks after children with muscle, bone and joint conditions requiring both non-operative and surgical treatment. We work as a team of medical, nursing, administrative and allied health professionals led by a team of orthopaedic surgeon consultants to care for children from Victoria and parts of Australia in a tertiary referral capacity. There are several sub-sections in the department to address the complex needs of children. Our patients range in age from just a few days old to eighteen years.
We are a training centre for orthopaedic surgery registrars in the Australian Orthopaedic Association training program and have hosted international orthopaedic fellows for many years, which has resulted in many close global partnerships for our department. We are actively involved in research in areas of Cerebral Palsy, Gait Analysis, Spine, Hip and Limb Reconstruction. We are continually seeking to innovate, while providing evidence-based and quality care to our young patients.
